Importance of Community in Business: And How to Build It

by | Feb 24, 2022 | Business

Who you surround yourself with matters. And if you’re an entrepreneur, this statement rings even more true. Driving a community in business is so important that your success depends on it. HOW do you cultivate an audience and make community a key strategy in growing your business? Let’s discuss.

Why Community is So Important?

But first, let’s talk about WHY Investing in Community is Critical to Your Business. When I think about community, my heart just bursts because it has been such a huge part of my life and business. Not only has it allowed me to grow 3 successful referral-based businesses, but it’s also led to the most beautiful life-long friendships.

The MOMpire in particular now has a community filled with like-minded Moms in Business, and the best part is that the culture within the community is better than I ever imagined. We continue to attract women who are ambitious, supportive, dreamers, and hard-working entrepreneurs.

When you begin to build a community in and around your business, you will begin to see it grow exponentially.

5 Ways to Drive Community in Business

Sure, it can be overwhelming to think about where to even begin when it comes to building a community in your business. So let’s keep it simple. Let’s highlight 5 simple ways to drive community in business.

Be a Guest Speaker

Being a guest speaker for summits, on IG/FB lives, or on podcasts is a great way to not only grow your audience but also become an authority figure in your space.

The awesome thing about building your community this way is that you will be attracting YOUR people. When a person from someone else’s audience takes the time to find and follow you, they are there for a reason! You will be building your community AND your hot lead pipeline at the same time.

Co-working Sessions

Co-working sessions are all the rage and for good reason. Being a work-from-home entrepreneur (and a mom on top of that), it’s hard to get in the zone. It’s so easy to get distracted by cleaning, running errands, or even Netflix.

Offering co-working sessions for your fellow entrepreneur community is a great way to connect with others, build a sense of community and comradery, and get done while you’re at it!

Round Table Discussions

Have you heard of round tables? It’s a similar concept to co-working sessions but think of round table discussions like mini-masterminds. Allowing your growing tribe a space to gather, connect, and talk business is an awesome way to cultivate community in business.

Networking Communities

One of the obvious, but not so easy ways, to build community is by engaging in them. And what I mean by that is getting involved and putting in the effort to connect and collaborate with others in networking communities.

Pay Attention to Your Current Audience

In all of this community building, it’s important to remember that you do already have an audience of people in your sphere! Whether you have 10 or 100k followers on social media, those followers are there for a reason. Don’t forget about them. Create content for THEM, engage with THEM, and connect with THEM!

This is a sure way to grow your audience and build your community.

What Community is the Right Community in Business?

“Be authentic!” It’s a trendy phrase right now. And it makes sense. If you’re building a community of your own, it’s important that you are attracting the right tribe. So be yourself! Deliver your message in a way that’s uniquely YOU. And if you are jumping into someone else’s sphere in order to connect with others, the same rule applies. If you’re being yourself, you’ll be building a community in business that feels good and brings you joy.
