Networking With Purpose: For Mom Entrepreneurs

by | Jan 14, 2022 | Networking Tips, Self-Care

You can build a profitable business without the hustle. You can build your business without wasting time and money. And you CAN build your business without the newest marketing trend. But how? Networking “the Mom Way” (networking with purpose)  is the answer.

You’re a mom AND you’re building your MOMpire at the same time. Not only that, you’re building a business that supports your dream life and doesn’t get in the way of it.

Mama, you need COMMUNITY & CONNECTION. It’s what everyone needs, not only in their personal life but also in BUSINESS!

Let’s be honest, no woman has ever had to do as much as the Modern Mom. We don’t have the same family structure, community fabric, or support systems. It’s really hard. And as moms AND business owners, we feel like we don’t have time to network.

But I’m here to tell you that you can’t afford NOT to network. But…only if you’re networking the right way…again, networking with purpose.

What is Networking with PURPOSE?

So what do I mean when I say “networking with purpose?” I’ll tell you what I’m not talking about. I’m not talking about going to awkward networking events or posting on Facebook job boards.

I’m talking about Relationships. Connection. Collaboration. Community. Friendship. And Referral Partnerships.

This is conscious networking. It’s creating a business that brings you joy because you are doing it alongside other women who have the same aspirations that you do.

5 Steps to Networking with Purpose

It’s not just about what networking can do for your business. I want you to step into the networking world by asking yourself “how can I help others.” I’m not asking you to neglect your business… but when it comes to networking, it’s a 2-way street.

Too often, people step into networking groups and are looking for their next customer. This shouldn’t be your number one networking goal. The actual networking goal is to find referral partners, and you can’t do that without the right approach.

So here are 5 ways to get started with networking with purpose:

First I want to say that finding the right networking group or space is the precursor step to all that’s to follow. Find one where genuine connections are happening. You will feel energized after attending an event…and you’ll know you are in the right group for you.

Show Up

When you find the right group…SHOW UP! Use the resources to grow your business, show up to the networking events, co-working calls, etc. The other women in the community should recognize your face, name, and know what you do!

Provide Value

You are an expert in what you do. By sharing valuable information and tips with the community will reveal your credibility and build rapport.

Schedule Coffee Chats

Connect with the women in the group individually. Initiate coffee chats so that you can learn more about each other and see if a referral partnership makes sense!

Collaborate

Coffee chats and connections lead to collaboration. Be on each others’ podcasts, go live on Instagram together, create a project together…the sky’s the limit when we collaborate!

Send Referrals

When it makes sense to, and if the opportunity presents itself, send referrals to your community members! This is what it’s all about!

Think of it as Networking Karma

What goes around comes around. When you are providing value of any kind, your community WILL THINK OF YOU when a referral opportunity presents itself.

The best part of all of this is that you will find so much joy in giving to and building relationships with a community of like-minded mamas. You’re not just doing these things to collect later on…it’s genuine, natural, and your business will inevitably thrive because of it.
